Frequently asked questions.
At ProSkin Clinics we offer the CynoSure RevLite® laser, as well as the award winning CynoSure PicoSure® laser. We offer both laser tattoo removal options so that we can remove a wider range of tattoos.
Laser tattoo removal works by breaking up the ink particles that are in the skin. In traditional lasers, such as Q-switch, photothermal action is delivered to the pigment of the tattoo, as well as the surrounding tissue, to break up the ink particles into smaller particles. These smaller ink particles are much more easily removed from the body through the immune system.
The treatment causes clients minimum discomfort, the sensation varies but is often described as a ‘flick of an elastic band’.
We ensure that all discomfort is minimized for our clients, and we offer cold air cooling and topical numbing cream to clients to numb the area affected. Any pain relief treatment options can be discussed with your aesthetician.
Unlike normal Q-switch lasers – which are not suitable for darker skin types – the revolutionary Picosure lasers can be used on all skin types. However, it cannot be used on cosmetic tattoos, such as eyeliner or eyebrows.
At ProSkin we use Picosure laser tattoo removal, as it is up to 3-4x faster than the previous generation of lasers – the Q-switched laser technology.
How fast you will see results depends on the colour and complexity of the tattoo, as well as other factors such as age, skin type and the chemical composition of the tattoo. The depth and density of the ink can also affect the speed of results.
During your consultation your aesthetician will give you an estimate of how many treatment sessions will be required to remove your tattoo. However, on average Picosure removes a tattoo in 4 sessions.
Recalcitrant tattoos, those that have stopped responding to Q-switched lasers, can take up to 6-8 sessions. However, this is a lot shorter than it would take if the treatment is continued with Q-switched lasers – where it can take up to 20 treatments, if it is even removed at all.
We firmly believe that in any like-for-like comparison of blue, black or dark blue tattoos, Picosure laser tattoo removal offers the best treatment option for you.
Picosure is known to be the safest laser tattoo removal option around at present.
Normal Q-switched lasers, which use photothermal action to break down the ink particles, can have an increased chance of thermal damage and scarring to the skin.
At ProSkin, we use Picosure lasers – which break down the ink particles through photomechanical effects – in order to ensure that the risk of any scarring is significantly reduced. Picosure typically does not leave scars.
As with all medical procedures, there is still a small chance of potential side effects, including;
- Temporary blistering – which is a common side effect of tattoo removal. However, it is temporary.
- Erythema, bleeding, crusting and scabbing- a clean dressing and suitable healing ointments are recommended if this occurs
- Wheal/flare with erythema may last 2-4 hours
- Mild to moderate itching
- Pigment changes- both hyperpigmentation and hypo pigmentation are possible, however this should be temporary and last 2-6 months
In most cases, there are no side effects and the above potential side effects are limited to a small fraction of all treatments that are carried out.
This will vary depending on the size of the treatment area, and client’s tolerance throughout treatment. It could be just 10 minutes, but for much larger tattoos we may need 1 hour.

I saw Aneta at the Bond Street Clinic for tattoo removal. She was very reassuring and explained the process very well. Throughout the procedure she informed me of what she was doing and how long the pain would last. I would definitely recommend this clinic and the practitioner.Read More

I have recently attended the clinic in Newcastle for laser tattoo removal. After spending so much money on Q-switch laser removal and seeing very little results I decided to read a little more in to other solutions for tattoo removal. Feeling a little apprehensive and not very optimistic I thought I would give ProSkin a try as I was determined to get rid of my tattoos. Firstly I was greeted by Nicola, who has been absolutely brilliant. She was very honest from the start and told me, after the tester patch, that she wasn't sure that one of my tattoos (I am having 2 removed!) would go as it didn't seem to respond to the laser. We decided to carry on and see how it went and I am pleased to say I have seen a huge difference already! :)
I am so excited for my return next week!Read Less
